Responsible for liaison with federal, state, and local agencies.
Knowledgeable about agency requirements and assures the program complies. Be knowledgeable of The Salvation Army Employment Policies as stated in The Salvation Army Central Territorial Handbook, and make every effort to have all teaching staff including the director be in compliance. Provide each Community Center employee with an After School Program Staff Handbook, The Salvation Army Territorial Handbook, and Northern Division Addendum.
Plan, oversee, supervise, and provide leadership to youth programs on a daily basis. Provide for the orientation of families, staff, and volunteers, as well as provide on-going training of all employees and volunteers. Any staff disciplinary problems must be brought to the attention of the Corps Officer. Conduct Regular Employee Reviews.
Interview, evaluate and recommend the hiring and termination of employees as needed. Maintain all personnel files: applications, interview results, state background checks, state personal information forms, performance evaluations, emergency contact information Responsible for observation of health, spiritual growth, and academic development of children.
Director must develop procedures on handling illnesses, accident prevention, and emergency procedures. Keep current health records of all children in files, and inform parents about community resources. Responsible to see that the facility is always neat, clean, organized and free of any hazards.
This represents a positive image to present enrollees, potential enrollees, benefactors and the public. Recommend to Corps Officer any maintenance and improvements of physical building grounds necessary for meeting health and safety child care requirements. Develop, evaluate and update curriculum keeping with the program objectives.
Develop and maintain communication links and relationships with parents. Provide each After School Program parent a parent handbook for parent information. Write yearly calendar of events for the program. Responsible for purchasing equipment, supplies and food for the program. Keep records of expenditures and receipts. Turn in receipts to Corps Officer as needed.
Maintain statistical reports as required by The Salvation Army and outside funding sources and complete required reports in a timely manner. Record accounts receivable as needed and turn moneys into Corps Officer. Prepare in proposal development and grant writing to secure moneys for on-going programs. Participate in the development of public relations advertising for the promotion of the youth programs Performs all other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility: This position supervises all Community Center staff and volunteers.
Qualifications College degree in child development preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience required in meeting the qualifications (Chapter 75-03-11. 1) as mandated by the State of North Dakota, Department of Human Services - Licensing Division. CPR and First Aid certified. Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and/or in a team setting, computer literate and be proficient in Word, Lotus Notes and Excel. Possess a positive attitude, works well with others, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters and be well organized and efficient. Willingness to obtain Archery and Air Rifle instructor certification. Must be able to pass The Salvation Army s background checks, clerical screenings and meet the MVR drivers qualification.
Must also be able to pass a Federal background check and fingerprinting. The incumbent must be willing to support and uphold the Mission of The Salvation Army.
The Director must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ with a desire for the spiritual development and discipleship of others, particularly youth. Must have a warm, friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well with children and youth of all ages, as well as their families, and be willing to fulfill job responsibilities in accordance with the program plan and objectives. The Director must be able to maintain a professional attitude towards the children, the families, and the staff at all times, and be able to communicate professionally and openly. The Director must also be comfortable with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The Director must be a role model, demonstrating the kinds of values, attitudes, expectations, beliefs, and choices that make our program excellent. The incumbent must be willing to support and uphold the Mission of The Salvation Army. It must also be understood by the incumbent that the position is subject to the requirements of Safe From Harm upon commencement of employment, and that the required Safe From Harm training program must be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
